What Marketing MCP is

Marketing MCP is one program that you run on your own machine. It lets an AI client, such as Claude, read and manage your marketing accounts on Google, Meta and LinkedIn, and it gives the people in your team a page where they connect those accounts and see everything that was done.

One program, two doors

The program listens on one port and serves two things there:

  • The management page, for people. You open it in a browser and sign in with a username and a password. Here you connect your accounts, create tokens, review drafts and read the activity log. An administrator also sets up the installation here.
  • The MCP endpoint, at /mcp, for AI clients. A client signs in with a token that you created on the management page, and everything it does is done as you.

There is nothing else to host. The program holds its own settings and its own database, in the folder it runs from.

What an MCP server is

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a standard way for an AI client to use tools that live outside it. An MCP server offers the tools. This one offers tools for your marketing accounts, so you ask for something in your own words and the AI client chooses the tool and calls it.

Marketing MCP is not an AI. You bring your own AI client and point it at the server: see Connect an AI client.

Who does what

The administrator runs the installation. The administrator:

  • installs the program and decides where it can be reached from;
  • registers one app with each platform (Google, Meta, LinkedIn) and enters its details once, for everyone;
  • sets the safety limits and decides which optional capabilities are switched on;
  • creates the users and says who may make changes.

Every user, the administrator included:

  • signs in to the management page with their own username;
  • connects their own Google, Meta and LinkedIn logins. The tools then reach the accounts that login can reach, and no one else's;
  • creates their own tokens and gives one to each AI client they use;
  • asks the AI client for what they need, and reviews what it did on Drafts, Queue and My activity.

A user either has write access or does not. Without it, a user can read reports and figures, and every change is refused. See Users and access.

The platforms it covers

PlatformWhat you can ask for
Google AdsReports, and changes to campaigns, budgets, keywords, ads, bidding, assets, targeting and audiences. Search, Display, Performance Max and Demand Gen campaigns.
Facebook Pages and InstagramPosts, reels and stories; drafts and scheduling; comments; messages; figures for posts and accounts.
Meta AdsReports, building a campaign, boosting a post, budgets, audiences, lead forms.
LinkedIn PagesPosts, comments, Page statistics.
LinkedIn AdsReports, building a campaign, boosting a post, budgets, lead gen forms, audiences.
Google Analytics 4 and Search ConsoleReports about your website. Read only.
Across platformsOne overview of a period, a content calendar, budget plans, alert rules, scheduled reports, and the new leads of every platform in one shape.

Several of these are off until an administrator switches them on, because each asks the platform for a further permission. Limits and switches lists them all.

What happens before anything changes

Three things hold everywhere:

  • A change is a preview first. Nothing is changed until the request is repeated as a real one.
  • A post is a draft unless you ask for it to be published. A new campaign or ad starts paused.
  • The limits come from the administrator. A request cannot raise them.

How it keeps you safe explains each of these.

What it does not do

  • It does not create a Video campaign in Google Ads. Google's API does not allow it. A YouTube ad is made as a Demand Gen campaign instead.
  • It does not manage Shopping campaigns in Google Ads.
  • It does not post to WhatsApp or to Threads.
  • It does not judge what a comment or a message says. The server has no AI of its own. It counts comments and hands them to your AI client; it never decides that one is negative.
  • It does not act on your accounts by itself. On a timer it can publish a post you scheduled, read figures you asked it to keep, tell you when a line you drew was crossed, and send you a report you scheduled. It never changes a campaign, a budget or a bid unasked.
